Shadow and Reality

A wolf, wandering in a lonely place about the time of sun-set, saw his lengthened shadow and exclaimed, "Fancy a huge creature like myself being scared of a lion. Why I must be all of thirty yards long. Why cannot I become king and rule over all the animals, every single one of them"
While the wolf was boasting thus about his own size, a mighty lion seized him and sat down to eat him up. Then , all too late , he regretted his brought about y ruin.'

An ape asked a fox for part of his tail so that he might decently cover up his own bare buttocks. But the spiteful creature said to him, "Even if my tail should became longer than it is now, still I would sooner drag it through mud and thorns than share a part of it, however small, with you."

This fable shows that the miserly man does not gladly part even with what he has in excess..

Going By Feeling

There was once a blind man who, when any living creature was put into his hands, could tell what it was by feeling it.But on one occasion , when someone handed him a wolf-club, he was not certain about it's exact species and remarked, ' I don't know whether it is a young wolf or a fox or some such animal. But of this much I am quite certain , that it is not fit company for a flock of sheep.
